Why does polypropylene turn yellow?

Mainly from thermo-oxidation, from gas fading (phenolic antioxidants reacting with NOx), and from acidic catalyst residues. The stabiliser package and processing conditions both matter.

How do I stop PP from yellowing?

Use a balanced phenolic + phosphite antioxidant package (e.g. Irganox 1010 + Irgafos 168), add an acid scavenger, choose gas-fade-resistant stabilisers, and control processing temperature.
