Irganox 1010 vs Irganox 1076 — which antioxidant do you need?
Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076 are both BASF hindered phenolic primary antioxidants used to protect polyolefins and other polymers from thermo-oxidative degradation. They are chemically related but differ in structure, which changes how they behave.
The key difference
- Irganox 1010 (CAS 6683-19-8) is a tetra-functional, high-molecular-weight phenolic (~1178 g/mol). Its low volatility and high active content make it ideal for demanding, high-temperature and long-service-life applications.
- Irganox 1076 (CAS 2082-79-3) is a mono-functional, lower-molecular-weight phenolic (~531 g/mol). It is more mobile and highly compatible in polyolefins, waxes and adhesives, and is often chosen for films, thin sections and cost-sensitive formulations.
How to choose
- High-temperature, long-life, thick parts → Irganox 1010.
- Films, waxes, hot-melt adhesives, good compatibility/lower cost per part → Irganox 1076.
- Either one is usually paired with Irgafos 168 (phosphite) for melt protection and colour.

What is the difference between Irganox 1010 and 1076?

Can I use Irganox 1076 instead of 1010?
